Heyyy there! ✨
January has already ended a few days ago and it seriously went by so fast. I can’t believe that we’re already done with the first month of 2017! So anyways, I decided to do a wrap-up plus monthly favorites post because I wanted to share to you all the books that I read, the things that I loved last month and just other important January notes. I’m planning to do this on a monthly basis for this year, and I hope I’ll be able to do so because last year I only published like 3 wrap-up posts.
I’m going to stop word-vomiting now, and let’s start of with my reading and blogging wrap-up:
This month was surprisingly a great reading time for me, I was genuinely amazed that I got to read a total of 12 books! Okay, some of these are just short ones and there’s two poetry books but a book is a book. So here are my January reads:
Books I already reviewed: (titles are linked to my reviews)
- The One Memory of Flora Banks by Emily Barr (★★★★☆)
- IDA by Alison Evans (★★★☆☆)
- If This Is Home by Kristine Scarrow (★★★☆☆)
- Keep the Faith by Ana Tejano (★★★★☆)
Upcoming reviews to look out for: (titles are linked to their Goodreads page)
- I Love My Love by Reyna Mays (★★★☆☆)
- Optimists Die First by Susin Nielsen (★★★★☆)
Other books read: (titles are linked to their Goodreads page)
- Everything Leads to You by Nina LaCour (★★★★☆)
- The Dogs I Have Kissed by Trista Mateer (★★★☆☆)
- Naomi and Ely’s No Kiss List by Rachel Cohn and David Levithan (★★★★☆)
- The Reptile Room by Lemony Snicket (★★★★☆)
- The Wide Window by Lemony Snicket (★★★★☆)
- The Miserable Mill by Lemony Snicket (★★★★☆)
As for blogging, January was a bit on the meh-side. I didn’t got to post as much as I wanted/planned to, basically because I was quite busy with school and personal agenda plus I was so into reading and but wasn’t up to writing posts. Anyways here’s the rest of my blog post for January:
I know, it’s pitiful. Anyways, here are some reading/blogging notes to share:
Last January I..
- ..wasn’t able to read any Classics.
- ..was able to read one book by a Filipino author. (Yay!)
- ..continued to read A Series of Unfortunate Events and I’m still reading and loving it.
- ..read a couple of diverse books.
- ..was on track with my reading goals but not with my blogging goals.
- ..wasn’t able to post weekly and I still don’t have any discussion post posted.
- ..reached 700+ followers on geniereads which is unbelievable and almost 400 followers on my Twitter account!
Next thing is my monthly favorites! I decided to include this section because I was inspired by the Youtubers that I watch who do this monthly. Basically, I’ll be sharing to you what I’ve been loving last month and up until now I guess, which includes my favorite book, movie, tv show/series, and song.
Favorite book read in January is The One Memory of Flora Banks by Emily Barr, my review is linked earlier if you want to check it out. If you didn’t know about this book, it’s about a girl who has anterograde amnesia so she can’t have any new memories since she was a kid, but then she was able to remember one thing that ultimately leads to an adventure where she finds out truth about her past and herself. I really really enjoyed reading this one because of mystery, suspense, plot and overall feel of the book. I got a eARC from Netgalley of the UK edition, and the US edition will be out on May. (The US edition is still available in Netgalley, request for it now!!!)
Next is my favorite tv series/show or I can say is also my favorite book series which is A Series of Unfortunate Events by Lemony Snicket. I’m currently reading the 7th book, and I’m completely enjoying the company of the Baudelaire orphans plus the writing/narrative is so amazingly done. I plan on doing a full book series review once I’m done reading it. For the series on Netflix, I haven’t watched episodes 7 and 8 yet but I’m planing to when I have some free time. This adaptation is ON POINT, I loved how they included even the small details from the books and very little was changed. PLUS ALL THAT ADDITIONAL SCENES (if you know what I mean) IS JUST LIKE WTF IS HAPPENING.
This month I was turned into a movie person, I really don’t know why and how but I was craving for some movies all the time specifically the RomCom ones! And believe it or not, I’ve only watched Begin Again for the first time this month. AND OMG I REGRET NOT WATCHING IT ANY SOONER. IT’S SUCH AN AMAZING MOVIE. I fell in love with the movie immediately, the songs, location, plot, characters, everything was on point. And the ending was so perfect for me. This is definitely one of my most favorite movies of all time. I also watched a couple more great movies which includes, Stuck in Love and 500 Days of Summer which both made me cry.
So in connection with my favorite movie of the month, Begin Again, my favorite song is A Step You Can’t Take Back by Kiera Knightly which was sang at the opening of the movie. I quickly feel in love with her voice and the song. I swear I have this and Like a Fool, which is also from the movie, on repeat for weeks! The lyrics is just so raw and emotional plus the tune and her voice will bring you FEELS. Sorry for those who have been expecting for an Ed Sheeran song for my favorite this month, but I do love Castle on the Hill especially the acoustic version of it. Ed Sheeran’s voice plus the lyrics are just heaven to the ears.
As far as January goes, 2017 has been good to me. But not so much blogging wise though, and that’s because as usual school has been very time and energy consuming. I must admit that after my holiday break I’ve been pretty laid back, I’m actually having more time to sleep and of course read!
Here’s some significant things that happened last month presented to you through this photo:
There goes my January wrap-up. Let’s talk! Have you read any books from my list? What are your favorite romcom movies? Any suggestions? What’s your favorite read last month? And don’t hesitate to leave a link of your wrap-up post on the comments, I would love to also read what you’ve been up to.
Hope that you’re having a great day today, happy reading and blogging!
Please do leave any comments, thoughts, messages, reactions, and/or suggestions! Thank you for reading.
Until next time,

It is perfectly acceptable that blogging took a backseat to reading!

YES BEGIN AGAIN! I looooved that movie, I don’t know anyone else that has seen the movie! I watched it a year ago & I still listen to the soundtrack, ugh so good!
I’m still trying to watch all of a Series of Unfortunate Events, I agree it’s the perfect adaption, and NPH has finally grown on me as Count Olaf.

YESSSS!!! OMG WHAT? I was literally the last one among my friends to have not seen the movie lol. That’s too bad, you should go push your friend on watching it because it’s such a great movie! AND THE SOUNDTRACK IS JUST ❤ ❤ ❤
Ohhh, have you finished watching yet? I've seen the last 2 episodes last week and it was shocking!!

Ugh I agree the soundtrack is just SO GOOD! 😀
Yes! I actually finished watching it this past weekend. I watched the last 5 episodes in a day. I know the ending shocked me too! All I could think is whoever is watching who didn’t read the books has nooooo idea what is going on. I do like how they incorporated them in, but I’m sad now to see them die (or well I’m assuming they died, with the show I swear anything is possible!)

This is so true, everyone who haven’t read the books would just be nodding their heads to what’s happening and we’re like “OMG WHAT THAT DIDN’T HAPP–WTF!!” I’m so excited and terrified on what they have for us in the next season.
